Overview
A bacterial infection that affects the lungs, pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is contagious. It could spread to different organs.
The bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis is what causes pulmonary tuberculosis (M tuberculosis). TB spreads easily. This indicates that an infected person can readily infect another person with the germs. By inhaling airborne droplets from an infected person's cough or sneeze, you can contract tuberculosis (TB). Primary TB refers to the lung infection that results from it.
The majority of persons who contract primary TB infection recover from it completely. For years, the infection may remain dormant. It reactivates in some individuals.
Most people who get TB infection symptoms were previously infected. Sometimes the illness becomes active within a matter of weeks.
